Will the Phantom of the Opera, Royal Albert Hall 25th annerversary performance be shown live at cinemas around the country, similiar to the Lee Mis performance at the o2 in London. ???
    kind regards mrs E Harrison

I dont know but I really hope so as that was a fantastic way to bring west end theatre outside london – I really I was there, especially at the start when you could see the audience arriving into the 02 at the same time – and the cinema was a sell out so not just us who thought it was great idea!

      • Tony Cooper says:

I hope so, Les Mis was amazing experience for those of us “up North” and unable to get to O2

As a resident of the US, I will not have the opportunity to see this show… As a lifelong Phantom Phan, I do sincerely hope that a DVD recording of the 25th anniversary will be made available for purchase…

    Here’s to hoping!

    • Anna says:

I also live in the US and wouldn’t be able to go see it. I have been a Phan since this musical was introduced to me, and I hope there is some way that those who aren’t able to be there can share in the celebration! Les Miserables has filmed both the 10th and 25th anniversary and I love them for that. The 25th of Le Mis was another celebration that I would not have been able to make, but becaue it was filmed I now have the ability to watch over and over… which I do:) And it kills me to think that I would be missing a chance to see Ramin Karimloo on stage instead of just on youtube video clips 🙁

I’ll do anything to go to London from the U.S. to see the fabulous performances of Ramin and Sierra! I saw them in London and it would be completing the full circle seeing them perform live Love Never Dies AND the Phantom. I hope you guys release a lot of production tickets so there’s a chance to go to London again from the United States.
If there’s no tickets available, you MUST film the dvd and broadcast live like Les Mis. You would make tons of money on that from the whole world!

Please, please, please film it!!!! Thank you!!

I would love to say that with all my heart I am in love with the Phantom of the Opera. I am 15 years old have still not been able to see it on broadway. Ive always been a Phantom lover and even with my CD’s and poster and sheet music I am not fulfilled. I would love to meet the Phantom in person and live the musical experience, because it touches my heart and soul everytime I hear the music or just his voice, or watch the movie. It’s something that overwhelmes me with this strange feeling.

I watched “The phantom of the opera” film when I was first year at music college, and I had always wanted to see the show. I finally watched the musical today 7 years after I first seen the film. I was speechless, fantastic performance! It was an unforgettable experience!!!!
I absolutely loved Will’s performance as Raoul, and I also studied classical piano at the RNCM for five years, so it was amazing to see someone as talented as Will!!!

I also hope that a DVD/CD will be made of this performance like that of 25th Les Miz. Viewing that DVD afforded me my first encounter with the enormous talent of Ramin Karimloo. I have never seen such a joyful and inspiring performance as his Enjolras! Those of you lucky enough to reside in the UK have been able to watch him grow as a performer in POTP, LND, Sunset Boulevard etc., and then experience his accommodating graciousness at the stage door where he treats his fans with sincere respect. I find the depth and diversity of his talent truly refreshing and look forward to one day sitting in his audience to hear his amazing voice sing to my soul. Ramin, thank you on behalf of all those lucky enough to be named CHRISTINE. Our name has never been spoken with such passion and pain…

    • Christine Schultz says:

Just an addendum-Broadcasting the 25th anniversary of Les Miserables on Public Television generated a lot of revenue for that forum and exposed this showcase of extraordinary talent to a new audience. A DVD of this 25th anniversary celebration of Phantom of the Opera could do the same. It would seem to make perfect sense on a purely monetary level.

Please show this in the US in cinemas as you did, Les Mis. We couldn’t be there, but would have given anything to have been. Then please, please make a DVD and release it. There are people all over the world who would buy this. It would not take away from the live versions still playing. Instead it would be a great marketing tool to advertise & encourage people to see the live performance. NOTHING can replace live theatre. This would give those who haven’t experienced it, a taste of the magic. If you doubt me, look to 10+ years ago when Michael Flatley sold out shows all over the world from a less than perfect DVD of Lord of the Dance. Everyone wanted to capture that magical feeling that suffused that audience. The DVD made him a multi millionaire & did not lessen the live show’s appeal one bit.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Lord Lloyd-Webber for this. “All I Ask of You,” is that it plays in a cinema near me in Texas.

OMG! I can’t believe it. Please don’t wake me if I’m dreaming. This is the best gift from ALW & CM ever. Saw ALW at the close of LND, he was so sad & emotional. Was fortunate to be in the audience that was part of the “saddest night in my whole career & also one of the greatest.” Because of the audience. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Lord Lloyd-Webber for this. “All I Ask of You,” is that it plays in a cinema near me in Texas.

      • Eileen says:

I was there too for the last performance of LDN,(was there opening night also). ALW has given so much to so many in this world. Thank you. Can’t wait to see the performance fromthe Royal Albert Hall. Hope the MASTER of all the Phantom’s, – Michael Crawford will be there.

Can someone who knows PLEASE tell me if this is going to be the full stage version of POTO, finally released on DVD as I have always prayed it could be, or just some concert? I can’t seem to find out anywhere, but I’m suspecting we’re not being told either way so we assume it’s the full version and then people are infinitely more interested than they would be otherwise.

    At last. 🙂

It isn’t the form—or the cast I would have liked (a concert and the two leads from the sequel as the leads in this “permanent record”), but fans have been waiting a long time for a legal way to watch the show they love with singers who can sing the score well and the story and characters unaltered (I hope).

    • Thomas says:

Ugh. It isn’t a concert. It clearly says fully staged production (Though it won’t be quite the same as the productions we all know). And the leads aren’t just from the sequel. They’ve both appeared in the production before this special event.

Both VUE and Showcase cinemas will be screening the 2nd October live broadcast in the UK, just check their associated web sites for where and how to book tickets. Thanks ALW and RUG for making this one of the best Christmas’s for me in I don’t know how long! If the ‘Love Never Dies’ DVD/Blu-Ray gets a simultaneous release, that will be truly awesome! Finally, for POTO, how’s about including an isolated score of Andrew’s wonderful music coupled with David Cullen’s phantastic orchestrations for us phans as part of the DVD/Blu-Ray’s extras? If not the whole score, selected highlights? Huge thanks once again!

    • Thomas says:

It’s not. At least not immediately. Perhaps in the future it will be.
      1) It will be broadcast in cinemas and subsequently released on DVD
      2) It is fully staged, but NOT the stage production that can be seen on Broadway, the West End, or anywhere else it is produced. The best way to describe it would be similar to the revival of Chicago…not a concert but not a full production.

I’M SOO EXCITED FOR THIS CONCERT!!!!! This is probably one of the most important events in musical history that will live on forever. The cast is absolutely perfect, and the location is simply gorgeous! I’m definately going to buy everything that has to do with the concert(yes-I’m that much of a “Phantom Phanatic”), and it’s totally WORTH IT! Break a leg to the actors, and carry on the legacy that was stated by Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman, Steve Barton, and everyone else who originated the most haunting love story the world has ever known!

This is amazing! I’m so excited for the show. I’m 15 and have been saving for years for the show as I knew some sort of show like this would come about! I’m from Scotland and this is partially the reason I got a weekend job to pay for my mother and I to go. Ramin Karimloo is my favourite West End actor, I travelled to see LND so I could see him in it… but it was his night off, his understudy was great though but still. Anything signed by Ramin and Sierra is INCREDIBLE. Sunday will be the best night of my entire life. LONG LIVE THE PHANTOM! xxxxxxxxxxxxx

That’s awesome that now the UK cn perform this amazing show- I recently had the honor of playing Christine Daae in my high school production last year and it was incrediable. Girls who are thinking of playing Christine, be prepared to work your butt off b/c you dont get that much down time. Set your costumes waaaayyyy ahead, put 2 water bottles on either side of the stage just for you and, when it gets close to your opening night, DO NOT SING the notes up to the high Eb ( which unless you use a recorded version, you will have to produce that note every night- not easy, trust me). It will wear your voice down very very fast!!!!

So exciting! This is my favorite show by far, and I’m excited to have the chance to see this concert since there’s no way I can go to London. For everybody who’s a fan of the Phantom, we are trying to bring Love Never Dies to Broadway. I still haven’t heard any definitive plans where this is concerned (has anybody else?), but at any rate, we don’t want to take any chances. My daughter Angie Diggens 24 (who was Sarah Brightman in Stars in their eyes finals 2005)aged 17 first saw Phantom of the opera when she was aged 7 years old. This made a great influence on her and after the musical she stated she wanted to perform on stage as a career. She is now a professional musician, (playing the electronic organ and piano) professional classical trained singer and opened up her own theatre school in her home town, to promote and teach talent. She has played at many venues around the UK since the age of 16 as a musican and singer and performed in many theatres productions professionaly and amateur productions locally. She was a great lover of phantom musical and Sarah Brightman & she appeared on TV as Sarah in 2005,where she recieved a collage on stage from Sarah The phantom musical has made a great impact on her in a positve way and she promotes the musical to many of her students and audience. This all stemmed from seeing Phantom of the opera when she was a child, as my hubby and i are nor musicians or singers. I am pleased to say that my hubby and i are bringing Angie and our son Shane 21(a great fan too) to the production at the Royal Albert hall on Sunday evening

Just saw the performance today at the movie theatre and shared the experience with my 8-year old who has been listening with me to the Canadian cast recording with Colm Wilkinson for the last month or two. Wonderful production!!! Prior to today, I’ve seen the show live 6 times and the cast in this performance was terrific! To be honest, I had forgotten about this show for the last 13 years and rediscovered it only recently (thankfully, good timing on my part!). After seeing it today, I fell in love with it all over again. It was especially nice to see Colm Wilkinson at the Royal Albert Hall, too. How lucky we are to have experienced the Phantom of the Opera with such a wonderful cast and stage production. Thanks for a great show, a great production and some beautiful memories of The Phantom of the Opera.

I saw it at Tinseltown, Fayetteville, GA. Probably on 50 people in attendance. I’m glad I happened up on the facebook site or I would have totally missed out! We wanted to applaud right along with the London audience. Some of us did, others didn’t. In our showing, the performance didn’t start until the rehearsal scene. The entire auction scene, we never saw..very disappointing as it sets the stage for the entire show IMO. Wonder what happened. We also would have like to heard Michael Crawford. Was something wrong with his voice or ?? But Sarah still shines!! Thanks for making this available! Sure was different. We still like the Vegas show the best-bar none!

    • Wendy says:

I saw the performance at the AMC Newport on the Levee in Kentucky. It was just as good as being at the actual show. I’m torn over which one I preferred. 🙂

Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron MacIntosh placed this musical masterpiece in the hands, hearts, and voices of an amazing cast that sang to our hearts and let our spirits take soar. What an honor to be united in time to countless people across the globe as we viewed history in the making. Ramin Karimloo’s talent seems limitless and captured the angst of a tortured soul yearning to be loved. The chemistry between the three major cast members was a joy to behold and an experience to cherish. Thank you for allowing us this golden opportunity. I do hope that the DVD will include all the playful moments of Ramin, Sierra and Hadley after the finale. As the credits rolled, I could hear laughter from the RAH audience and word has it that the Ramin literally through Hadley out for a final bow and then carried Sierra off the stage. The geniune affection that they have for each other should live on as part of the DVD.

I feel so privileged to have been in the audience at the RAH on both Saturday and Sunday evening performances – it was the event of a lifetime. Sunday night was made even better by the appearance on stage of Michael Crawford! Ramin and Sierra were both amazing as always and this event will stay in my memory forever. I will look forward to watching the film when it is broadcast again. Thank you Andrew Lloyd Webber for such wonderful music.

I am wondering the same thing! I was SO disappointed & angry that he didn’t sing…how do you have THE Phantom there and not sing??

    • Thomas says:

Maybe he didn’t want to sing. My understanding is that Michael Crawford doesn’t perform it he hasn’t been thoroughly rehearsed, and since he currently involved in another West End show, he wasn’t available for rehearsals.

Amazing footage! It was truly a dream come true to attend this 25th anniversary. I am a huge ‘Phan’ since I was only 5 years old and the Phantom of the Opera has and always will be a big part of my life. This was a once in a lifetime experience which I will never, ever forget! Thank you so much Andrew Lloyd Webber, for this stunning, breathtaking production, thank you Sarah Brightman, for you are truly the Angel of Music and thank you to all the people who made it happen over the past 25 years. I could not be more grateful!

I had privilege of being at Royal Albert Hall Sunday afternoon – thank you for such wonderful show. The staging was truly amazing even better than at Her Majesty’s theatre. How fantastic to hear all the Phantoms singing together and we even got to meet most of them. Ramin & Sierra are just ‘phantastic’ and such humble people about their craft. I am so looking forward to the DVD and CD coming out – can’t wait and keep playing the current CD all the time.
Please may I desperately ask though that you release a DVD of Ramin’s performance of Love Never Dies, he just gives me goosebumps when he sings and after having been so many times to see the show would love a DVD to keep the memories alive!

    • Angela Iannilli says:

I agree with you regarding the release of Ramin in Love Never Dies, could never understand why they have chosen to release the DVD of the Australian version of it. To me Ramin is the one that made that role what it is.. It would be wonderful if we had both the Love Never Dies and the Phantom 25 with Ramin’s preformance.

      • Angie Bishop says:

I agree that the London LND should be released Ramin was just perfect every time I saw him in it (6 times) – to me he is the Phantom. I was so lucky to be at the RAH on both Saturday and Sunday evenings it was so magical in that wonderful venue and I can’t wait to see Ramin in Concert with Celia Graham on Thursday 13th at Colston Hall Bristol.

        • Catherine Logan says:

Absolutely agree re DVD of LND. I too saw it 6 times including the closing night – Ramin’s and Celia Graham’s performances were sheer perfection, I still get goose bumps when I think about it. I have never known a song get a standing ovation in the middle of a show like Till I Hear You Sing did, such a passionate and magical performace. Why oh why oh why was a DVD made of the Australian show and not the London one??!! I also wish that a CD recording could be made of the show as it was when it finished which included a few more POTO melodies as well as Ramin singing a verse of LND at the end which was perfect, the show deserved to finish with a flourish and not a whimper. Am so sad it has finished, the music, lyrics and performances of everyone involved were truly special.

          • Harry Prouse says:

The reason that the Australian Version is being released is because the reworking of the production by Simon Phillips is far superior to the London Production.

          • Catherine Logan says:

There are thousands of people in the UK who loved the London production and returned to see it many times – to say nothing of the amazing voices and acting of Ramin Karimloo, Celia Graham etc and it is that production we would love to be able to watch again and again now that it is no longer on stage.

I watched the 25th Anniversary show on screen in Australia, and I can’t remember anything so wonderful. I’ve seen the stage production twice, once with the late Rob Guest as the Phantom, and once with Anthony Warlow. They were both brilliant and I enjoyed both enormously despite them both bringing their own individuality to the role – or perhaps because of that.

One of my relatives had the pleasure of seeing Michael Crawford in London in the very early days of Phantom and still boasts about it being one of the best experiences of her life.

Thank you Sir Andrew for taking inspiration from Gaston Leroux’s beautifully written book and creating this magnificent show.

It needs to be made clear to those of us in the US when we will get our DVD/CD’s if we have reordered. Feb. is 3 months after the UK release. On the preorder page there is no warning that if you do not live in the UK your products will not be shipped on Nov. 14. I’m sure a lot of people have spent a lot of money expecting Nov. 14 and this issue needs to addressed ASAP.

I saw the LIVE performance in Federal Way, Washington, USA, and was so moved by the production that I went back to see 2 of the 3 encore performances. I would have gone to all of them, but I had a class that night! I took a coworker friend of mine to the last encore, and she loved it…she had seen it when Michael Crawford was the Phantom. I knew Ramin was extremely talented from seeing him on DVD in the 25th Anniversary Concert of Les Mis, but was completely swept away by him as the Phantom. Sierra’s voice was so beautiful and flawless, and Hadley Fraser, wow, what an excellent Raoul. Everyone was excellent, I’ve never seen such emotion, beauty, and sexiness before. I have seen it twice on the stage, both in Seattle, Washington, and loved them, but this performance was the best! I was so disappointed to hear that Love Never Dies closed in London. I am wishing a production will come to the US after Australia. Thank you for the loveliest experience I’ve had in a long timeQ

I am wishing a production will come to the US after Australia. Thank you for the loveliest experience I’ve had in a long timeQ

The other 3 Phantoms were John Owen-Jones, Colm Wilkinson and Peter Joback (who I believe will appear in Phantom at Her Majesty’s in the near future). I remember Ron from my childhood, on Halloweens he was the talk of the neighborhood and us boys would make regular visits throughout the week to see all the gory props like the dead old lady, a few remote control masks, severed limbs and all kinds of cool stuff! Off and on we would drop in while he was working on clients and I remember the exiting horror of seeing the fried alien pilot and the biker gang transformed into apes!!! He gave me (one of his fans) a discount on a raw bloody human skull pulsating with veins and I carried that thing around everywhere for a month or two! He tried to point the way towards schooling on special effects but I ended up in custom cabinetry. Ron Wild was Bad Ass even back then!

I live in the US and couldn’t wait till February to get my copy of this magnificent production so I ordered from RUG last week. I was expecting a 3-4 week wait to receive it, but miraculously I received it today and have already watched it. Of course I had to get the blu-ray edition since it is region free but I wanted that anyway. It is truly a STUNNING presentation of Phantom and the cast is quite possibly the best all around I’ve ever seen and I’ve been watching POTO for 24 of it’s 25 years.

I can’t thank you enough for putting on the production in the first place, beaming it live through Fathom Events so we could see it, and finally for filming it for dvd release. I’m quite sure I will be ordering more copies once it’s available in the states.

I am looking forward thought to the 25th anniversary of Phantom because it’s my favourite show and I think it will be spectacular. I hope that Ramin Karimloo is an excellent Phantom because I seen clips of him on Youtube but I haven’t seen him live because when I went to see the show I saw David Shannon play the Phantom. I hope you have made a excellent job but, like I said at the begining, don’t pick Nicole Scherzinger to play Christine EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

Nicole Scherzinger did a very good job on the royal variety show but that was just one song, whether she would be able to do an entire show is another thing, the role of christine is very demanding, plus can nicole even act? far better sticking to theatre people, phantom is my all time favourite but i was so disappointed when gerad butler was cast as phantom in the movie, he can’t sing! Ramin is the best phantom of all time, with john owen jones as a close second, hopefully the toured show will be in the north east at some time as would love to see it again soon.

I was privileged to see Michael Crawford & Sarah Brightman in the opening weeks of Phantom. I was just a teenager, but I was so moved by it that I didn’t want to see another musical for years after, for fear that it would spoil my memory of Phantom (I had already seen Cats, Starlight Express & Michael in Barnum).
This Christmas I asked for the 25th Anniversary DVD of Phantom & I was not disappointed: what a fantastic performance! What’s more my 4 year old son is completely entranced by Phantom & wants to watch it over & over! Bravo!
So disappointed that LND ended its run before I had chance to see it.

When will the next set of dates be announced? Please come to the North East – either the Sunderland Empire or Newcastle Theatre Royal.

I really don’t think it’s fair to North East phans if there are no dates here. The closest tour stops are hours away and it’s quite expensive to pay transport on top of ticket prices and probably a hotel room after. We missed out on the recent Les Mis tour too.

The Sunderland Empire is huge – bigger than some West End theatres. It’s really grand and lavish too

Why must you close this show? It has been such a wonderful experience to see this show in Las Vegas. My husband and I are retired and go twice a year. We play the Broadway CD constantly in the car and we have the movie and the 25th Anniversary DVD. We love the Las Vegas version for many reasons, not the least of which is the wonderful theatre and the cast. But, we can have the theatre experience without going to New York. Not many retirees from the midwest can afford New York. We retired to a small community that doesn’t have much going on, so off to Vegas we go. This is a class show that I thought would be there for many more years. Oh, I know, the economy and all. Well, every show (8) that we saw, the house was full. I know many fans (see the Facebook page) are very upset. I would hope that you would consider offering a DVD of the show after it closes. But I suppose there are many reasons you won’t do that. I just needed to let you know that we really feel very sad.

I am devastated at the news that Phantom is closing in Las Vegas! I have seen Phantom 84 times, 60 of which were in Las Vegas, and to think that after Sept. 2 it will be gone forever….tragic!! I fell in love with the original production back in 1992, and when the Vegas version was announced, I wondered if it could live up to the original. I was blown away when I saw it for the first time!! It is the original show, and SO MUCH MORE!! Spectacular! Having invested $40million in the theater itself, I cannot understand why you would choose to end it so soon! The audiences are still coming. The phans are still loving it. Why end it now? By closing the Vegas show, after having ended the tour, you are effectively cutting off the whole west coast from the magic that is Phantom! A four hour drive is do-able for me. A 3,000 mile plane trip is not. Please, please reconsider this decision. You are making a HUGE mistake!!

What an aful bit of news regarding the close of las Vegas Phantom. So much love and passion went in to create this special masterpiece and nearly involving every original creative team member on the project made it so much more intimate and personal. The fans invested in the show and so many new Phans were made because of this unique production and location. I loved going to Vegas because I knew I could catch the show here and that was always a thrill. Now we have nothing. I hope at the very least a version of the las Vegas show will be filmed and made available to all of the millions of Phantom supporters throughout the 25 years of keeping the show alive. A true movie of the actual stage production that changed the very fabric of musical theater as we know it. You can’t dismantle the Vegas show without a film being made. The Royal Albert Hall was nice as a celebration but it wasn’t the show!

Totally agree with those who ask for the show to be recorded and sold on DVD and Blu Ray. I’ll never get to see the Aussie version of LND but, like countless thousands, will buy the recording. Nor will I ever see the Las Vegas show but would buy the recording like a shot. The cost of recording the show against the potential sales makes this a sure-fire business decision and will reward millions of faithful fans. Cast recordings are the future – not at the expense of the stage shows but in addition to them.

Please don’t close! This is the closest production of “The Phantom of the Opera” to me (I live in Salt Lake City). No show on the Las Vegas Strip beats this one! This was the first musical I ever saw in my life, but I began loving it even before I saw it! Everything is memorable in this show (especially that chandelier). It will be sad to see it go, but I hope to see it once more before it closes. Don’t leave, please. Please remain in Las Vegas!

I am very, very crushed to hear that this show is closing down in LA. In my whole lifetime, and sad as it may seem, I have only seen the Phantom of the Opera once. I planned on seeing it in LA because I have heard so many great things about the show there. This musical, believe it or not, has changed my life completley and taking it away will ruin everything for many, many Phans. Look I’m 18 years old and about to embark with the U.S. Marine Corps knowing that I’ll be on my own and I’ll be able to finally see the performances in many different areas of the world, LA included. Why end the show now? That’s what I’m not understanding. I’ve heard that you stopped the tour in the U.S. back in 2010?! Why are we being denied the show? If Phantom of the Opera closes down to the U.S. I will be utterly heartbroken. Like I said, this show gave me inspiration and I’ve actually learned a lot from being a Phan and I understand many things in the world now because of it. It would be denying all Phans within the U.S. if you close down this venue, new Phans included. I hope and pray to God that you all reconsider closing this down. This is a real shame to have to see this go when many have yet to even experience it.

I am extremely devestated to hear this news.
I, being only 13, have only seen Phantom once, and it was the Las Vegas one.
I understand that Phantom is getting old, so people think that it may not attract a following anymore, but I know for sure that the younger generation is still so interested, and it would depriving them of the chance to witness a wonderful show if you take away the Las Vegas Spectacular.

This news really broke my heart when I read it. I know a decision has already been made and I’m just a mere junior in high school but please don’t close the show in Vegas. I saw this amazing production only once back in 2006 when Brent Barret and Sierra Boggess were still there. It always gave me so much hope before, knowing that this production was going to stay in Vegas for a long time because we can’t afford to go all the way to Vegas (coming from LA) and see this amazing production multiple times like other fortunate people. Being that Phantom was the first live musical I ever saw, the show, story, and music mean so much to me. If possible, please extend the date so I can get money together and see it at least one last time. Please Keep Phantom in Vegas just a little longer, that’s All I Ask of You 🙁

Wear a dress or skirt but not too much skin. And keep your sholuder covered. You can use a shawl or wrap to cover your sholuders if you need to. You can leave your hair up or down. If you don’t have skirts or dresses, wear very nice pants or slacks. For shoes, wear nice shoes. You can wear open-toed heels, but if you’re wearing flats, it’s better to have closed shoes. It’s okay to wear shorter skirts or show your sholuders, but it’s looked down upon. Formal shows expect their audience to be dressed modestly and well.

I am devastated to hear that the Las Vegas show will be over . I can only thank God I am visiting my daughter and granddaughter for my birthday in April and she insists I see it as she has. Myself, my daughters, sons and granddaughter represent three generations of “phanatics” and I consider every locations of phantom a piece of the beautiful story that is Phantom of the Opera. I have loved it since the 80’s and see it once to twice a year in NYC, last night we saw the 10,000th performance of the NYC version and Gillian Lynne was there hoping there was 10,000 more to come. The West Coast deserves the opportunity to have an accessible Phantom and if not the devoted fans must be provided with the show on DVD. Please, Mr. Webber, all your Phanatics, young and old are counting on you to never end the Music of the Night, it is your legacy!

I agree that this touring production must have the falling chandelier as that is such an exciting part of the show and at the beginning when being raised above the audience’s heads it brings the show to life. I can understand why theres going to be no chandelier falling/raising because you cannot do this in a theatre that hasn’t been adapted like her majestys simply for safety reasons! I still think this is going to be a good version of the show regardless of not having a chandelier crash but if you want a chandelier crash i suggest you see the production in London!

  693. Laura says:

if the chandalier scene is causing concerns about health and safety, then I HIGHLY recommend that the tour must include the Liverpool Empire theatre; the last time Phantom toured (several years ago) the theatre adapted the auditorium to hold the chandalier’s rigging – in fact, the holes from where the rigging was held are still visible to this day, as the theatre refuses to fix them, just in case Phantom ever came back!!
Also, in recent years, they have extended the stage and backstage areas to accommodate large touring shows such as Phantom and the auditorium itself is still as beautiful as ever. A perfect setting for Phantom!
*at this point I wish to point out that I do NOT work for the Liverpool Empire, merely a regular guest.*

Yes I remember the UK tour several years ago and the falling chandelier was exactly like the London production – that was at Bristol Hippodrome. Obviously health and safety issues have changed since then. I have seen the London production 25 times and that tour was exactly the same as London which I did not expect so was pleasantly surprised. I might add that the RAH was a truly wonderful production and the chandelier with fireworks did look spectacular on the film / DVD so I will look forward to this tour no matter what.

We can’t believe a first-rate production of Phantom won’t include the falling chandelier. It is such an iconic moment and really defines the show. Could understand it not happening at R.A.H., but why in major theatres throughout the country. It happened OK on the previous tour. Why not now?

At the very end, why did we not hear Michael Crawford sing Music of the Night? After all, he IS the Phantom of the Opera

      • Judy Baker says:

On 2 October 2011, Crawford made a special appearance during the finale of The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall — a fully staged production of the musical at the famous London venue — marking 25 years since the show received its world premiere. Although reunited with original Christine, Sarah Brightman, Crawford did not sing as he had just finished performing in a matinee of The Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium…So undoubtly he had to rest his voice for his next performance.

        • Misha says:

If matine was THE problem, couldn’t they somehow make an agreement, arrangements, anything? I mean, it is not every day that you record a historical video that will be seen by millions and even generations to come; and they knew about this (dates and all that) in advance… So I don’t buy the matinee story…

And I can tell you what my mum said when she saw the show on DVD and on YouTube (and she is almost the age of Michael Crawford)… She said it was an injustice done to Michael, as well as to the audience, as Mr Webber didn’t give Mr Crawford the chance to talk and interact with the audience. Michael was only “shown” to the public; his emotions are soooo visible, as well as crowd’s response, and it is a real injustice that Michael was not given a chance to interact.

When Michael entered, or when dear Ramin showed how gratefull they all were, or when in the final moments Michael waved and instantly the whole audience almost cried (and the lights were unfortunately turned away from Michael instantly), those were the moments we could see how much everyone wished Michael at least talk to them…

          (Sorry for my broken English…)

Next time I visit UK it will be to come and see the Phantom. Yes, it will cost me my monthly salary (salaries are low in Serbia), but it is worth the expense!

And, if anyone read this, please consider visiting Belgrade (Serbia, Yugoslavia). Maybe the show can be played in “Sava Centar” (cinema and congress hall, built for the Non Aligned Movement conference back in the days…). (6.000 seats)
…Or even in Belgrade Arena? (24.000-28.000 seats)

It would only be fitting to see and hear Michael Crawford have a solo number after the show’s conclusion. As amazing as it was, was, why wasn’t Michael “given” a bigger part? Was it due to the producers or Michael perhaps? Regardless, that was the only element really making that encore a 100% score. Putting all that side, the show and conclusion afterwards was amazing!

Fantastic performances by Ramin Karimlooo and Sierra Boggesss. I particularly enjoyed Ramin’s “younger” portrayal of The Phantom – it added a great deal, in my opinion, to the romance and to the pathos of this wonderful performance. Ramin says he would return (for a short time, I note) to Canada – if we wanted him.
That would really be something to look forward to.
I have the “Highlights” from the original performance of The Phantom, with Michael Crawford. and, while I was pleased to see him make a guest appearance, it seems obvious to me that, since he was celebrating his 70th Birthday, it was probably wiser that he did not sing.

I thought it was a terribly sad movie, and I did not like the Phantom at all. Ok, enough of my ranting. 😉 I’m sure that it was wonderful to see it on stage!! 🙂 Now, do me a favor and sing my favorite song for your family (oh, they are gonna love me for this! haha!) “Think of Me”. I love that one. 🙂 Love ya! Sarah

The movie was garbage in comparison to this performance. Watch it with the English subtitles turned on and you will understand plot elements you never did before.

And I agree with all of the rest of the posters that the ONLY thing sorely missing from the 25th tribute was Michael Crawford singing. I wish so much that he had!

As the special Phantom of the Opera anniversary celebration evolved with Andrew Lloyd Weber introducing, one kept hoping Michael Crawford would appear. Then, when Andrew brought on principals from the original London company, it was breathtaking to hear and see the wonderful voices again ~ my, they were/are at the top of their game. But where was the master of Phantoms, Michael Crawford? Why wasn’t he making his entrance onto the Royal Albert Hall stage and bringing the house down, as he has done so many times before?

Oddly, it didn’t happen. He waited back stage while the celebration continued without him. But, the omission left a huge chasm in the otherwise joyful proceedings. When he finally made his entrance it was muted, and the magical voice remained silent, while the sensitive face flushed with emotion, eyes tearfully brimming. It spoke volumes to the audience.

During the finally, the current Phantom bowed graciously and sang briefly to him the line from Music of the Night, “you alone can make (the) song take flight,” and Michael gave him a warm smile and nod of appreciation. A small but significant recognition of what Michael Crawford has done for this musical and everyone who has seen it.

The celebration was beautiful though flawed by this. We can speculate Michael felt he just couldn’t sing now, on this stage, without breaking down. It had been a difficult separation when he left the production. One would like to think it was his own difficult choice not to perform, however frustrating to himself and his many admirers. From this perspective, Michael Crawford will ALWAYS be THE Phantom.

Every night at 7 or 9 this show truly does make the “music of the night!”, it’s as truly exciting as a real “masqurade!”, please don’t let this be “the point of no return!” with this magical musical!! “All I ask of you” is that you at least film this beautiful play for many to see on DVD! I truly love this show and I shall watch no other “Phantom of the Opera” but this one alone! Every actor, every musician, and the famous cast of Christine, Raoul and the Phantom! I hope to meet you all sometime and let you know how much I love each and every one of you! I’m going to see the show again for spring break. And I always wanted to throw a rose to the phantom, so hopefully I might get that dream.

I think it was probably wise of Michael not to sing at the 25th anniversary, especially since Sarah seems to have received a lot of negative feedback on her performance! However, they missed a CLASSIC opportunity to bring the audience to its knees……they just had to have him join with the others when they told “Christine” to “sing for me….”. He only had to speak that line! What a moment that would have been!
(But, oh boy, isn’t Ramin great?!!!).
