Yesterday, Wednesday, 26th January 2011 – a snowy day in New York – the Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera celebrated its very special and unprecedented 23rd anniversary at The Majestic Theatre – and, of course, such an event had to be marked with a suitably phantastic celebration…
Audience members attending the anniversary matinee performance got a special post-show treat, when, after the curtain-call, New York’s Phantom Hugh Panaro stepped forward to give a speech, before ushering on a wonderful birthday cake in the shape of a ’23’.
He then introduced special guest Hal Prince, Phantom’s world-renowned Director, who gave a few words on the show’s incredible anniversary before leading the cast in cutting the cake – which, due to the snow in New York City, had only arrived at the theatre ten minutes before!
