Cameron Mackintosh Portrait

Cameron Mackintosh has been producing shows for more than 40 years during which time he has put on hundreds of productions around the world including Cats, Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera - the three longest running musicals of all time - and Miss Saigon. He has also produced Little Shop of Horrors, Side by Side by Sondheim, Follies, Martin Guerre, The Witches of Eastwick and acclaimed revivals of My Fair Lady, Oliver! and Oklahoma! His next London production will be another major revival of Oliver! at the end of this year starring Rowan Atkinson.

His new production of Miss Saigon is a success all over again with several international companies opening all over the world. His recent musical, Mary Poppins (co-produced with Disney) is a subject that he has wanted to do for over 30 years, has been an enormous success in London and on Broadway with an International Touring production opening in the UK this Spring and a second American Company opening in Chicago in Spring 2009 followed by productions in Amsterdam and Sydney.

In 2006 Les Misérables overtook the previous record holder, Cats, to become the longest running musical in the world and is now in its 24th year at the Queen's Theatre in London. New productions of Les Misérables are continually opening all over the world and an international touring company will open at the end of 2009. Cameron is working with the Chinese towards staging Chinese language versions of classic western musicals in China, starting with the Mandarin production of Les Misérables. His most recent London production is the Tony® award winning Avenue Q now in its third year.

Cameron owns seven theatres in London's West End - the Prince of Wales, Gielgud, Queens, Wyndham's, Noël Coward, Novello and Prince Edward, all of which, with the exception of the Queen's, have undergone spectacular refurbishment.

In 1995 his company received The Queen’s Award for Export Achievement and he was knighted in the 1996 New Year’s Honours for his services to British theatre. He is President of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and in 1990 he endowed the Chair of Contemporary Theatre at St. Catherine’s College, Oxford, where he is also an Honorary Fellow and Member of the Court of Benefactors. In 2006 he received the national Enjoy England Award for Excellence for his Outstanding Contribution to Tourism.
