Sam trained at Guildford School of Acting where he studied on the three-year acting course but was awarded the school’s singing prize.
In the West End Sam has covered and played Professor Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady (Theatre Royal, Drury Lane), Javert and Grantaire in Les Misérables (Palace), Weber in Miss Saigon (Theatre Royal, Drury Lane), Hugo and covered Alex Dillingham in Aspects of Love (Prince of Wales) and Reuben in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (London Palladium and Labatts Apollo).
Other theatre credits include: Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Chichester Festival Theatre), Judd in Another Country (Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford), Shere Khan in The Jungle Book (Nuffield Theatre, Southampton), Carl in The Unexpected Guest (York Theatre Royal), Mudgekeevis in Hiawatha (Newcastle Theatre Royal and Billingham Forum), An Ideal Husband with Sir Donald Sinden (Redgrave Theatre, Farnham), Ivan in The Ten Commandments (Palace), Little John and King Richard in Babes in the Wood (York Theatre Royal).
Sam’s UK tours include: Les Misérables, Aspects of Love and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
His directing credits include resident director for Les Misérables (Palace) and also for Les Misérables in Concert (Scandinavian arena tour) with an international cast and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Sam was also the director for Les Misérables in Concert with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (Powderham Castle and Broadlands Estate), The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber for RTE (Dublin International Concert Hall), Masters of the Musicals (UK and Iceland tour), Celebration of Musical Theatre with Clive Anderson (Palace), Peter Corry in Concert (Belfast Opera House).
Sam’s concert work includes: soloist in Jack in Review – a tribute to the theatre critic Jack Tinker (London Palladium), Grantaire and Bamatabois in Les Misérables in Concert (Belfast Odyssey Arena), soloist in Masters of Swing (Royal Albert Hall) and Friday Night at the London Palladium with Bruce Forsyth. His recordings include We Can be Kind (Crusaid) and Terrible Beauty for Spandau Ballet star Gary Kemp.
His film and television work includes: PC Hall in The Bill (Thames TV), High Priest in Atlantis (BBC), Casualty (BBC), Sam in The Black Madonna (BBC Screen 2), Josh in Howard’s Way (BBC), Prince Edwin in Avalon (Paramount Film) and Mike Basset England Manager (British Film Council).
Sam has two children – Olivia (seven) and Joshua (five). The latter thinks that Daddy is a professional footballer in London. How disappointed he will be. Sorry Son!
