Rainer Fried

Assistant Director

Rainer has worked on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of The Opera throughout the world in cities such as Antwerp, Mexico City, Madrid, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Cape Town, Pretoria, Sao Paulo, Shanghai, Seoul, Taipei and, Hong Kong, Singapore as well as the 2007 Australian touring production which originated in Melbourne. He was recently Associate Director for the Australian production of Andrew Lloyd Webbers Phantom sequel Love Never Dies which opened in Melbourne in 2011.

In November 2011 he was Assistant Director for a new production of The Phantom of the Opera in South Africa. Rainer was an Associate Director for the Australian production of Billy Elliott – The Musical in Sydney and for its first foreign language production in Seoul, South Korea in 2010. As Resident Director, Rainer worked on the Cameron Mackintosh/Stella production of Miss Saigon in Stuttgart, Germany.

Rainer has directed numerous productions, both musicals and dramas. His credits include: The Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum; Crimes of the Heart by Beth Henley; Stella by Johann Wolfgang Goethe; Die Wende by Jörg Graser; Der Räuber Hotzenplotz by Ottfried Preussler and Little Women – The Musical which he directed in London. Rainer served as Assistant Director in Germany at the Ulm Theatre, the renowned Hamburg Drama Theatre and the Regional Theater in Kiel. Productions include: Long Day’s Journey Into Night by Eugene O’Neill; William Shakespeare’s As You Like It; Silence/One for the Road by Harold Pinter; True West by Sam Shepard; Mother Courage by Bertolt Brecht; Maria Stuart by Friedrich Schiller; Minna Von Barnhelm by Heinrich von Kleist; An Enemy of the People by Henrik Ibsen; Nicht Fisch Nicht Fleisch by Franz Xaver Kroetz and Les Mystères De L’Amour by Roger Vitrac.
