Arthur Masella has directed Harold Prince’s production of The Phantom of The Opera throughout the world. He recently directed two Off-Broadway productions, Cast Of Thousands featuring the songs of Craig Carnelia and A Score to Settle. He has also directed the musicals Sweet Charity; Fiddler On The Roof; The Music Man; Yours Anne; Company; Man Of La Mancha; Sweeney Todd; Candide and has directed the operas Casanova; Cavalleria Rusticana; Of Mice And Men; I Pagliacci; La Cenerentola; La Boheme; Rappaccini’s Daughter; Amahl and The Night Visitors; Regina and The Sorcerer at opera companies throughout the United States.
He received his early training with Harold Prince working on a dozen Broadway and Opera productions including the premiere productions of Pacific Overtures, Sweeney Todd, Evita, Candide, Willy Stark and Merrily We Roll Along. He has directed a number of plays as well including Resurrecting Levin, Custer’s Luck and Byrd’s Boy.
He is the co-founder and has served as Associate Chairman of the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
